Q:  How do I start using my trial version of RoutePlotter?
A: When you start RoutePlotter for the first time after download a purple dialog box will appear in the middle of the window with three options. One of which will be 'Send me a free 15-day trial license.' Simply click this link to be taken to a trail key web page. Just enter your email address into the indicated space and you will be send a trial license key to that email address. When you receive your trial key choose the 'click here to apply it' link on the main window of RoutePlotter to enter your license key
Q:  How do I enter my license key I have purchased after a successful trial?
A: If you ended up purchasing a RoutePlotter key then you can enter it by going to the Help Menu and choosing the 'License key..' option. Just copy and paste your newly purchased key from your confirmation email into the license key dialog box and click the ok button. RoutePlotter will now be registered.
Q:  How do I configure a new trace route?
A: To configure a new trace route click the 'New' button in the 'Monitored Trace Routes' window. This will bring up a dialog box where you need to enter the 'Description' of the trace route, the address of the trace route (URL or IP - you have to click the resolve button once you have entered your address.) You can also choose the port number, whether to use UDP if ICMP fails and the interval in which you want the trace route to refresh. There are some advanced options that allow you to alter the Ping packet size and the Ping timeout setting. Once you are done click 'Ok' until you return to the main screen. Your trace will now be displayed in the 'Monitored Trace Routes' window.
Q:  When I install and then run RP as a service I don't see the program running, even though the window services panel says it is?
If you run RP as a service and then use terminal services to login to the machine RP is running on you will not see a GUI. This behaviour is part of windows and not controlled by RP. To get round this issue first setup RP in standalone mode, close RP down and then start RP as a service. The settings you made in standalone mode will then be used when running as a service. To help you understand any problems RP has running as a service it will output error information to a file in the RP install directory called boot.log, this can help you solve any problems with port, IP etc if you find RP is not running as expected.
Q:  RoutePlotter doesn't save my recent trace routes when I exit?
A: This is a know bug in RoutePlotter 1.4d and other previous versions. To solve this problem simply download the latest version of RoutePlotter and install it over your previous install. Download.
Q:  Why does RoutePlotter mention something about a server when I try to change view??
A: To be able to view the different view available then you have to start the RoutePlotter server. You don't have to install RoutePlotter as server you just have to start it locally. To do this go to the 'View' menu and choose 'RoutePlotter Server'. You can change the port and password for the server in the preferences section. Once this is done just click the start button and if the message at the top of the dialog says 'Running' then it has started ok. Now just click the 'Ok' button to return to the main GUI. Now when you try and change view a browser window will open with the view you have chosen. For explanations on all the views please see the manual.
Q:  How do I install RoutePlotter as a server?
